Ko Awatea Learn

Ko Awatea LEARN is an e-learning and education community with access to a wide range of courses, procedures, articles.  It includes an aged residential care portal, that has subjects such as male catheterization, continence and wound assessment.  Access to the tool is free but requires a unique user name.

Lippincott

You can access Lippincott Procedure and Lippincott Advisor through Ko Awatea. Once you have received a username and password login to Ko Awatea LEARN.

Follow these steps to access the Library resources such as Lippincott and Dynamed:

  1. Click on “find courses” in the menu bar and then select Waikato DHB.
  2. Scroll down to find the search box “Search for courses in category: Waikato DHB:. Type “library” into the search box.
  3. Click on link to request access to these resources, you will receive an email conformation once access has been provided
  4. Find the resources under the “My Learning” tab.
  5. Click on “Library resources including DynaMed and Lippincott Procedures” 

Waikato DHB Library

Waikato DHB Library provides a range of free services to health professionals working within the Waikato region. It is located in the Bryant Education Centre on the Waiora Waikato Hospital Campus. Health professionals can request access which allows them to borrow books, request articles and gain librarian assistance with research or study.

Nurse Entry to Practice

Nurse Entry of Practice applications are run through Advance Choice Employment (ACE).  Places for new graduate nurses in age-related residential care are growing in the Waikato region.  If you are a new graduate nurse considering gerontology as a career option or a facility considering providing support for a NETP contact Lin Marriott for further information.

Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP)

The Waikato DHB PDRP is available for nurses working for providers outside the Waikato DHB who hold a current Memorandum of Understanding with the Waikato DHB PDRP team. The programme is available for registered and enrolled nurses in general practice, mental health, aged residential care and iwi providers. As the Waikato DHB PDRP is accredited by Nursing Council nurses approved on the Waikato DHB PDRP will be excluded from being audited.

Post-Graduate Opportunities

Health Workforce New Zealand (HWNZ) provide funding for Gerontology Registered Nurses to undertake postgraduate study. The fund is administered via Waikato DHB Professional Development Unit on behalf of it is for all nurses in the Waikato DHB region. Funding supports study fees and makes a contribution to travel and backfill of staff released to study.

Code of Health and Disability Learning Modules

Three new online learning modules for providers aimed at improving their knowledge and understanding of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights (the Code). On completion of each module you will receive a certificate, which could be used as part of your continuing professional development programme.  To register for the online learning module click here.
